PCBA President's Message

Is it Labor Day already?

Over the past month, I’ve tried to attend as many committee meetings as possible.  I want to make sure that people know me, and that I know them and the work of the committees. I’m impressed, and pleasantly surprised at how active some of the committees are, and how seamlessly the transition from one PCBA year to another seems.

The Diversity Committee is well on the way to hosting an outstanding Diversity Luncheon.  This year’s speaker, Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx, promises to bring an interesting perspective to the diversity conversation, as well as providing name recognition that will help drive attendance.  If you have not already reserved your seat, do so today!

The CLE Committee is also hard at work, planning the Winter Series, but also presenting an additional seminar this year on October 14th on various forms of personal protective orders. “Ethics in the early morning and keeping pests away through the afternoon!”  There is no better way to get your CLE credit.

The Holiday Party Committee has set its basic plans, and this should be one fun evening!  If you enjoyed the roast of Joe Napoli last year, do not miss this year’s party, which promises to be bigger and better! We’re going back to The Warehouse on State, so mark December 12th on your calendar now.

Last but not least, Judge Tom Perkins and his committee are working to secure an exciting speaker for this year’s Lincoln Banquet.  The event will be heading back downtown this year.  Dates are still flexible depending on the speaker.  Be sure to watch the LegalEase for more information.

You may have noticed the new slogan on some of the pages.  “Not your father’s PCBA” was originally a joke tag line promoting Judge Maher’s annual meeting a few years ago.  We have resurrected it because it fits – we are taking the PCBA forward with new programs and ideas to drive continuing interest and participation.  Join a committee and help us do so!
