We view diversity as including race, color, religion, gender, national origin, ancestry, sexual orientation and age. We request your input to update and improve our long range plan. How can the Committee assist you in recruiting, hiring and retaining minority lawyers? Annual luncheon? Minority law school scholarship? Summer intern program? Job fair? CLE diversity program? High school outreach? Coordination with the Bradley pre-law? Speaker’s bureau? Social events? Social media? Other?
Our next meeting will be at noon on February 19 at the PCBA office. If you have input, feedback or interest please bring your lunch and join us. Alternatively, feel free to email your input to chairperson, Nina Gougis (ngouis@hlerk.com), vice chairperson, Bob Jennetten (bjennetten@comcast.net) or any other member of the committee. Fitness, Health & Wellness Committee: Member Link to Wellness
By Ron Hanna, FHW Committee Chair
Work Life Balance in Law:  Lawyers have all consuming jobs -- assisting clients at the worst times in their lives, juggling multiple client matters, working to fix or prevent serious problems, managing staff, managing money and running businesses.  Many lawyers also have a deep commitment to public service and donate many hours to pro bono services, service on boards and volunteering in the community.  Is the ability to balance professional demands with health goals and family time a myth?
The FHW Committee wants you to take a moment and think about what is most important to you and what you should do with your valuable time.  Check out some thoughts and suggestions at:
FHW Member Tip:  It's easy to fall into the trap of doing nothing but working, sleeping, and looking after the kids, but over the long haul you will find yourself on the road to burnout.  Make sure you carve out a few hours in the week for exercise and outside interests.  You and those around you will benefit if you avoid sacrificing your own needs.

Courthouse News - From the Bench
New Supreme Court Rules 138 and 15 takes effect January 1, 2014. The rules already include social security numbers from being filed but now Rule 138 will add driver’s license numbers, financial account numbers, and debit/credit card numbers.

Attached are the rules amended December 24, 2013.

I know there has been discussion among many of the clerks and advocates and attorneys on compliance procedures that will be needed. The rules apply to all civil cases excepting those civil cases where the file is already confidential (i.e. juvenile abuse and neglect). Please review that attached amended rules. Suffice to say that any procedures adopted must comply with the rules and the Rule 138 does include a form NOTICE OF CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION WITHIN COURT FILING for use by attorneys and clerks.

Judge Michael E. Brandt
Circuit Judge
Tenth Judicial Circuit
